Libertango is a composition by tango composer Astor Piazzolla, recorded and published
in1974 in Milan. The title is a portmanteau merging "Libertad" (liberty) and tango,
symbolizing Piazzolla's break from classical tango to tango nuevo. In the introduction part,
the present arrangement by Walter Abt quotes typical phrases of some other of his pieces. The middle
section is inspired by Al di Meola's Libertango-improvisations in 6/8 time. The Finale recites
the chord progressions of the 1st theme and culminates in a brilliant rhythmic Rasgueo part.
The chord indications as well as the accompanying tutorial inable the performer to improvise
both in an ensemble with other instrumentalists and as soloist. For this purpose. the
implementing parts are groundbreaking according to the topic.
